“When I get a little money, I buy books. If any is left, I buy food and clothes.” ~ Erasmus
For me, a life without books is like a life without sunshine.
Books we can touch, smell, get papercuts with, and glue or tape back together when they start to fall apart.
Books where we remember that first lightning-strike of a new idea, or a phrase well-turned, or a sentiment changed.
Books that scare us or move us or inspire us, or, sometimes – sometimes brutally – put the truth where it needs to be.
Nietzsche said that ‘one repays a teacher badly if one always remains nothing but a pupil.’ I think we only get one life in which to say what we need to say – To tell a story that wants telling. To save a memory that needs remembering. To share a flight of the imagination before it evaporates.
Here are my books.
